This week, oil fell through the price floor of $60 a barrel and gas at my local filling station was $2.26 a gallon. That’s great news for commuters and almost every business, but wonderfully bad news for our ugliest enemies. If oil prices remain low through next year, the effect on rogue governments, from the Russian Federation to Venezuela, will go from damaging to devastating.

Doctors in France will have the right to put terminally-ill patients into a deep sleep until they die, under plans unveiled on Friday that reignited a national debate on euthanasia. ...In France, a 2005 law permits "passive euthanasia", where a person causes death by withholding or withdrawing treatment that is necessary to maintain life.  

Shia pilgrims flock to Karbala for Arbaeen climax
Huge numbers of Shia Muslim pilgrims gathered in the Iraqi city of Karbala at the climax of a key festival, despite threats of violence. Iraq says up to 17 million made the pilgrimage over 40 days this year, more than a million from Iran, and many remained for the ceremony of Arbaeen. Tight security aimed to prevent attacks by Islamic State (IS) and other Sunni militant groups.  

Turkey police raid media linked to opposition cleric Gulen
Turkish police have raided a newspaper and TV station close to a US-based Islamic cleric, Fethullah Gulen. There were raids across Turkey and at least 14 people were arrested, Turkish media reported. Mr Gulen is a rival of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. His Hizmet movement has millions of supporters.

After all, they claim to be an ultra-religious group. ...Islamists recently handed out pamphlets in Mosul, Iraq, entitled, “Questions and Answers on Taking Captives and Slaves,” explaining in a clear question- and-answer format the official positions of Islamic State concerning female slavery, according to CNN.

Congress cleared a $1.1 trillion spending bill for President Barack Obama's signature late Saturday night after a day of Senate intrigue capped by a failed, largely symbolic Republican challenge to the administration's new immigration policy.  

Dozens killed in Afghanistan fighting as foreign troops head home
The Afghan Taliban killed a Supreme Court official, a dozen mine clearers and several national and foreign soldiers but also suffered heavy losses from intensifying violence ahead of the withdrawal of most international troops in the next two weeks.  

Yemen kills 'al-Qaeda militants disguised as veiled women'
Several suspected al-Qaeda militants, disguised as fully veiled women, have reportedly been shot dead by Yemeni security forces near the Saudi border. The militants were killed after one of them opened fire on a soldier who was checking their vehicle, officials say.

However, Vatican scholars have deconstructed these reports and it was discovered that Francis' reported comments on November 26, were actually made by a Pope Paul VI several decades ago.  

20 dead, 88 missing after mudslide in central Indonesia
Heavy rains in central Indonesia loosened soil and collapsed a hill, setting off a landslide that killed at least 20 villagers and left 88 others missing under piles of mud, officials said Sunday.

5.2-magnitude quake shakes southwestern Iran
A relatively strong quake has hit the city of Behbahan in the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan.  

4.2 Hawaiʻi Earthquake off of Kailua-Kona
The USGS reports the quake occurred at a depth of 3.2 miles and was located: 35 miles WNW of Kailua-Kona, Hawaiʻi; 70 miles S of Kīhei, Maui; 78 miles S of Kahului, Maui; 78 miles S of Wailuku, Maui; and 137 miles SE of Honolulu, Oʻahu.

God blesses his children for holy intentions

"Them that honour me I will honour," said God once to a priest of Israel, and that ancient law of the kingdom stands today unchanged by the passing of time or the changes of dispensation. The whole bible and every page of history proclaim the perpetuation of that law.

"If any man serve me, him will my Father honour," said our Lord Jesus, tying in the old with the new and revealing the essential unity of His ways with men.

It seems plain that almost any Bible character who honestly tried to glorify God in his earthly walk was so honored. See how God overlooked weaknesses and failures as He poured upon His servants grace and blessing untold. Let it be Abraham, Jacob, David, Daniel, Elijah or whom you will; honor followed honor as harvest the seed. The man of God set his heart to exalt God above all; God accepted his intention as fact and acted accordingly. Not perfection, but holy intention made the difference!

In our Lord Jesus Christ this law was seen in simple perfection. He sought not His own honor, but the honor of the God who sent Him.

"If I honour myself," He said on one occasion, "my honour is nothing; it is my Father that honoureth me." So far had the proud Pharisees departed from this law that they could not understand one who honored God at his own expense.
