Truth addresses itself to the total man
Dec 7th, 2014
Thought For The Week

The Bible is, among other things, a book of revealed truth. That is, certain facts are revealed that could not be discovered by the brilliant mind. These facts are of such a nature as to be past finding out.

These are facts that are hidden behind a veil, and until certain men who spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost took away that veil no mortal man could know them.

The lifting of the veil of unknowing from undiscoverable things we call divine revelation.

What is generally overlooked among humankind is that truth as set forth in the Christian Scriptures is a moral thing; it is not addressed to the intellect only, but to the will also. It addresses itself to the total man, and its obligations cannot be discharged by grasping it mentally.

Truth engages the citadel of the human heart and is not satisfied until it has conquered everything there. The will must come forth and surrender its sword. It must stand at attention to receive orders, and those orders it must joyfully obey. Short of this any knowledge of Christian truth is inadequate and unavailing.

Bible exposition without moral application raises no opposition. It is only when the hearer is made to understand that truth is in conflict with his heart that resistance sets in. As long as people can hear orthodox truth divorced from life they will attend and support churches and institutions without objection!

Syria on Sunday accused Israel of carrying out air strikes against two government-held areas in Damascus province, one of them near the capital's international airport, state television said.

"The Israeli enemy attacked Syria by targeting two safe areas in Damascus province, namely the Dimas area and the area of Damascus International Airport," said the channel, adding that no casualties were reported. Eyewitnesses stated that they saw up to four IAF aircraft in the area.

The Syrian army confirmed facilities were damaged later Sunday, and said the strikes proved Israeli involvement in the Syrian Civil War.

"This direct aggression by Israel was carried out to help the terrorists in Syria, after our armed forces secured important victories in Deir Ezzor, Aleppo and elsewhere," the army said.

"This proves Israel's direct support for terrorism in Syria," it added.

One of the sites targeted appears to have been the Dimas airbase - which was the target of another airstrike just over a year ago. According to Maariv, Syrian state TV claimed the site was storing Russian-made S300 surface-to-air missiles.

That previous strike was said to have been conducted by Israel in an attempt to stop "game-changing" weapons, including surface-to-air missiles, from being transferred to Hezbollah.

It was one of several airstrikes believed to have been carried out by the Israeli Air Force as part of efforts to stem the flow of advanced weaponry to Hezbollah as a "reward" for its staunch support of the embattled Assad regime.

However, the Israeli government and military have refused to confirm or deny any such strikes, and the IDF has not released any statement on this evening's reported strikes either.

Updates to follow.

Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East, and it will remain a democratic state with equality for all its citizens. Nothing will change that. It is in our souls and in our character.”

Putin pushes back: Beware the wounded Russian bear
Contrary to what he would like us to believe, things are going very poorly for Vladimir Putin these days. Having found the West more united than he expected on the issue of sanctions against Russia, he now discovers that the bottom has fallen out of the international oil market. As if that were not enough, he also finds Europe nixing his pet Southstream gas pipeline, supposed to run under the Black Sea, which he had hoped would increase Russia’s energy stranglehold over Ukraine and the rest of Europe.
