“Darkness Descends”
by Art Sadlier
June 19th, 2011

As we draw closer to the dark days of the tribulation period we are seeing an increasing rebellion against God and His Word. The western world is on a crusade to promote homosexuality and the homosexual lifestyle, not just to promote it but to flaunt it.

In Toronto, the mayor has come under heavy criticism for not marching in the gay pride parade. In New York the State Legislature has just voted to legalize gay marriage. In Sweden a pre-school class has banned the use of the word him or the word her, which promotes gender confusion, and rejects God’s design for the male and female.

Many mainline churches have sanctioned gay marriage and have ordained gay bishops.

In the US, the new season's TV programs are being called the most perverted ever. A case is before the courts to recind indecency laws.

The US Supreme Court has ruled that violent video games for children cannot be banned.

It seems that the gates of hell are being opened to allow a flood of evil to overwhelm us.

Our society is totally opposed to everything that God in His Word commands. It is opposed to marriage that God has ordained. When the Word of God says that God created the heavens and the earth, the world rejects that out of hand. They admit that they do not have a satisfactory alternative, but they affirm that the possibility of God is unacceptable.

On the international scene the world is about to vote in the UN to take away the land God has promised to Israel. They are about to declare that Judea and Samaria, the Golan Heights and East Jerusalem are the property of the Palestinians. That is open rebellion against God.

David described our day in Psalm 2:1-3, "Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us." That is the throwing off of the instruction and the commands of God’s Word.

What right does God have to tell you what to do?

First - God designed you in eternity past. "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.  My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them," (Psalm 139:14-16).

Second - God has made you and you are accountable to Him. "I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm...." (Jeremiah 27:5). "Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die," (Ezekiel 18:4).

You can reject God's Word if you choose, you are not accountable to me or to anyone else, but you are accountable to Him. You may reject my interpretation of the Word of God, that is your perogative; but you are still accountable to God and to His Word.
